The National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE) released today the official Technical Annex for Taekwondo for the 2026 CONADE National Games, a document that sets forth the rules, categories, competition formats, and requirements for one of the sports with the highest participation in the qualifying process leading up to the national stage.
The document, available on the official government website, outlines the conditions under which thousands of taekwondo athletes across the country will compete during the state, regional, and national stages in 2026.
The appendix follows a structure similar to recent editions, dividing competitors into various stages of development:
- Ages 10–11 (born in 2015–2016)
- Ages 12–14 (youth)
- Ages 15–17 (U-17)
- And higher age groups (including U-21 or open in some cases)
Competitions are held in both divisions (women's and men's).
Competition categories:
- Kyorugui (sparring): with specific weight classes by discipline and age group (typical examples: -29 kg, -33 kg, -37 kg, etc., up to open weight classes in the junior division).
- Poomsae (forms): individual, pairs, and team in some categories.
- Recognized poomsae: Taeguk 4–8, Koryo, Keumgang, Taebaek (depending on age group and belt level).
- Freestyle poomsae is also included in certain categories.
The uniform must be the official competition uniform recognized by World Taekwondo for kyorugi.
Classification system and stages:
- State Level → The top finishers in each category, division, and event (sparring or poomsae) qualify.
- Regional Round → The top teams from each state advance according to the established quotas.
- National Finals → The culminating event of the 2026 CONADE National Olympics (exact dates to be announced, but tentatively scheduled for May).
No substitutions are permitted once the registration period for the state-level competition has closed. Any unforeseen issues will be resolved in accordance with the General Rules for Participation in the 2026 CONADE National Olympics and Paralympics.
Highlights and reminders:
- The document emphasizes strict adherence to protocols regarding conduct, uniforms, and certifications for referees and coaches.
- It is reiterated that delegates, coaches, and judges are part of the state delegation and must comply with CONADE’s guidelines.
- It is emphasized that the appendix is a document that is constantly being updated; therefore, coaches and state associations are advised to review it directly and stay informed of any potential changes.
