2026

Tomorrow marks exactly three months since we embarked on this adventure called Kickwire Taekwondo (October 2, 2025—let’s not forget that). It’s really not very long compared to other sites dedicated 100% to promoting this sport/martial art/way of life, and it’s also too early to say that the site has become a go-to for the public. However, the commitment has been constant, and at least from this side, it doesn’t feel like so little time has passed.

There’s a saying in Mexico (somewhat unfortunate in the context in which I’m going to use it, but no less true for that) that goes: “It’s not the same to be a drunk as it is to be a bartender,” and now, as the owner of the bar, I’m experiencing this in every possible way. I am, under no circumstances, a novice when it comes to media and journalism. Although I’ve always accepted that I’m not a professional journalist, I believe I share some basic principles with those who are. Besides, someone once told me that journalism is also a craft, and I took them at their word.

There are currently 160 articles on this site, published over a period that spans the official length of spring, and it has been just as arduous as the work of the drones during that same season (not that I’m complaining). Perhaps, if you’re a follower or have come to appreciate this effort I put forth with the same love as the aforementioned bees, you may have noticed that the posts have slowed down over the last month; it’s not because I’ve let my guard down or anything like that; the very cycle of competitions around the world has a seasonal pattern that tapers off as the year comes to a close and drops to zero in January—which is when everyone takes a break from events involving physical competition and focuses on events involving courses (though for some, it’s the time when their annual fundraising begins under the guise of education).

This coming year is going to be a great year for events, but above all for major competitions, and we’re really looking forward to discussing them and even covering several of them. It’s the year the Olympic cycle officially begins, and we’ll see the competitors for Los Angeles 2028 on the road to qualification and earning points in the Grand Prix events, which kick off in Rome (June 4–7), followed by Muju (September 4–7), Paris (October 8–11), and the grand finale in Astana (November 27–29).

Of course, we’ll be keeping an eye on the new rules and how they play out at events around the world, such as the World Junior Championships and the World Poomsae Championships…

In the Pan-American region, the events of the year are undoubtedly the Central American and Caribbean Games in the Dominican Republic (July 24–August 8) and the Pan American Championships in Brazil (May 7–8)—well, that is, if the dates don’t change, because the release of the calendar in the region has been a disaster, with two or three different posts in a single day, last-minute corrections, a complete lack of clarity, and dates “to be confirmed” so far.

Of course, this year will also feature the inaugural PTF World Championships (July 10–12) in South Korea, a highly anticipated event that will award direct spots in the Kombat Taekwondo Grand Prix to those competing in that category. In addition, competitors of all ranks and styles will take part.

On the ITF side, we’ll also be celebrating their 60th anniversary, and there’s a good chance we’ll be able to attend.

In short: it’s going to be a year packed with action that you can follow right here on this site, where we’ll be bringing you details, exclusives, and, of course, on-site coverage—which is exactly what we need to help not only fans but the general public learn more about this sport and all its facets.

Speaking of Olympic qualification, there’s also a very serious special investigation into an issue that’s happening across all five continents—something everyone knows is going on but pretends not to notice with an unprecedented, complicit silence. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves…

2025 was a fantastic year for Kickwire Taekwondo, even though it was so short. 2026 is going to be a great year in every way, and I can’t wait to see what this platform will become once we celebrate its first full year, from January 1 to December 31.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this initiative, to those who have added it to their news feed, and to those who already follow us regularly. May this be a great year for everyone, especially for taekwondo.

See you on the road...
