Dr. Juan Pedro Flores Velasco, a physician and leading figure in Mexican taekwondo, has been appointed to the Parataekwondo Classification Committee of World Taekwondo (WT).
This appointment, confirmed in official documents, establishes him as a member of the committee responsible for promoting the development of parataekwondo on a global scale. He is the only Mexican on this committee or in other equivalent WT bodies, which represents a significant achievement both professionally and for Latin America.
In addition to his work on the international committee, Dr. Flores Velasco is:
- International Para-Taekwondo Medical Classifier certified by World Taekwondo, a role that has led him to participate in key events such as the classification of athletes for competitions like the WT Presidents Cup Oceania and the 2024 Australia Open (Brisbane, Australia).
- An active poomsae athlete with notable performances in international competitions (including medals at events such as the 2017 Hanmadang in Korea and European online tournaments).
- Director of the ParaTaekwondo Committee of the Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU) for the 2023–2025 term, a position officially confirmed in October 2023.

His career combines medical expertise, competitive experience, and a commitment to inclusion through Paralympic sport. In 2024, he also served as an instructor for international classification courses (P30), helping to train new classifiers in the global parataekwondo community.
Dr. Juan Pedro Flores Velasco has thus established himself as a leading figure in para-taekwondo, representing Mexico at the highest levels of international sports governance and development.
