The heart of the Salvadoran capital will become an international combat arena with the launch of the Kombat Taekwondo Challenge Series 019 (KT-019), the first professional event of its kind to be held in El Salvador.
The sporting event will take place at the iconic Plaza Gerardo Barrios in San Salvador’s Historic District, starting at 6:30 p.m., and admission will be free to the general public. The event will transform this public space into an elite open-air arena, where 13 professional taekwondo matches will be held.
The event brings together 26 professional fighters from nine countries across the Americas, establishing El Salvador as a host for a high-level tournament as part of Kombat Taekwondo’s global expansion.
The director of the Historic Center Authority, Adriana Larín, highlighted the event’s impact on revitalizing the area: “We are using sports, as well as music and other international events, as part of our strategy to attract more visitors, promote the country abroad, and stimulate the local economy.” Larín thanked the organizers for their confidence in choosing El Salvador and extended an invitation to attendees and tourists to “take home a great experience and return with their families and friends.”
The Kombat Taekwondo Challenge Series is supported by the Salvadoran government and coordinated with institutions such as the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR), which have facilitated the logistics of bringing this event to the city center. The initiative aims not only to promote professional taekwondo but also to position the country as a destination for world-class sporting events.
This marks a historic milestone for taekwondo in El Salvador, as it is the first professional Kombat Taekwondo Challenge to be held in the country. The event will be streamed live on Kombat Taekwondo’s official YouTube channel, allowing fans from around the world to watch the card.
The card features a mix of fighters with extensive experience in Kombat Taekwondo and newcomers making their debut at this event, as well as an exhibition match showcasing the newly announced rules that will take effect in April at Kombat Challenge 020 in Querétaro, Mexico.
